Dream Big

It is our belief that achieving positive outcomes is more than accommodating a young person and providing them with adequate care. Our teams are dedicated to consistency to help establish a sense of security and belonging for the young people who live with us. We also believe that a creative and playful environment ensures a holistic approach to the care and development of their sense of identity.

We know that young people flourish when they feel valued, accepted and safe and therefore we work hard to instil our values and beliefs into our work ethic, staff teams and care model. We have developed a bespoke recruitment package to ensure that all of our care team members share our values and ethos and focus on hiring people who are genuinely passionate about creating positive changes and making a difference in young people’s lives.

Our care teams meet at least once a month to discuss individual care plans and map out the coming weeks. Regular consultation within teams is vital for continued success in ensuring consistent outcomes. In addition, each young person will be actively involved in updating aspects of their care pathway. We feel that this approach has proven to help young people understand their own feelings and emotions so that they can better manage their behaviours. It also helps them accept responsibility, accountability, and creates a greater sense of pride and self-esteem.

Our hope is that each young person within the Watermead Care family has a good level of self-awareness and self-confidence and learns the importance of accountability and responsibility. We hope this will positively manifest and they will grow into strong, self-assured adults who value themselves and those around them.

Part of our ethos is to ensure that not only are the young people in our care happy and supported, but also our staff team. We believe that the staff team plays the most vital role in the young people’s care and development and therefore we prioritise ensuring that our team are the most resilient and resourceful that they can be. We promote a culture of openness and respectful challenge to our work in the belief that a non-judgemental environment facilitates learning, rather than criticism. We utilise Clinical Supervision with a trained external therapist on a monthly basis so that the team can discuss any issues confidentially that they may be having at work or in their personal lives. We understand that very often it is hard to leave our home life outside of the work environment and vice versa and that it is important to support our team with both aspects of their life. We also actively encourage personal development of each staff member and we work alongside each individual to look at personalised plans for training and professional development.

The founders of Watermead Care have worked in the care industry themselves and understand the importance of creating a happy home for our young people as well as our care staff. We have made a commitment to provide a workplace that motivates, listens to and benefits their care teams well. We value the teams and work hard to ensure we have a 'family environment'. We know that creating a sense of 'family' will best enable us to achieve good outcomes for young people and create better life chances as they grow older.

What the care team think about working for watermead care

“Watermead is an organisation that puts the welfare of it’s employees at the heart of everything they do. Staff have monthly supervision meetings with management and clinical supervision meetings with an independent counsellor. I find these meetings empowering and motivating as they professionally point to your strength and weaknesses. Staff are given regular development training in their areas of work to equip them and make them more efficient in their work. I find working for Watermead a pleasure as I have developed a lot in my area of work.”

“I have been working with Watermead for a year now and I absolutely love it. It isn’t just an incredibly rewarding role but equally challenging and without the support and guidance from the team I work with, I don’t think I would be as happy as I am. The company we work for and the people we work with are so important in this type of role and I feel proud to say that I work for Watermead, the people are what make the kid’s futures better and that’s why I want to be a part of this team.”

“I’ve not been with Wateread for long. In the short time that I have been here, I have found everyone – home, staff and management – to be friendly and supportive. I am enjoying working at Charnwood House and am hoping to be a more active part of the team now I’m part-time. I have experience and can honestly say that I feel like I’m being treated as an experienced staff member despite being new which makes me feel valued. The staff seem happy in their roles and everyone is very approachable and supportive. I like the fact that Watermead is a small company that are more focussed on a trauma-informed approach to behaviour and providing a more homely environment instead of an institutional one. It’s nice to see how much the young people benefit from this.”

“I am so happy that I made the decision to work for Watermead Care. The recruitment process was professional and the communication before and after was second to none. The training to ensure that you are fully prepared for your role was delivered by lovely professionals in a timely manner and enabled me to fulfil my role effectively and knowledgably. At Watermead Care, the management are lovely and efficient and I feel very well supported in my role. To have monthly Clinical Supervision is very helpful and the staff perks are great. The staff and young people at Watermead Care are great and a pleasure to work with. No two days are the same and that’s what keeps the role interesting. The shift pattern is great and the homes are welcoming and homely. If you are looking for a rewarding role as a Childcare Practitioner and want to work with a caring and supportive company, I cannot recommend Watermead Care enough!”

“Really enjoyed working at Holly Tree House it is a great place of work, great staff friendly, warm and welcoming and the home is a 5 star and children’s needs and interests are always put first.”

To all the staff @ HTH. Thank you Anne-Marie for all your support, you literally go above and beyond for us all and literally I’ve never ever experienced an amazing manager before you. I feel so lucky to apart of your team”
